Summer 2010

We're now well and truly into the summer holiday season, though the weather isn't always agreeing!

St Peter's by the Waterfront continues to be open 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) between 10am and 3.30pm. It's a great place to bring the kids while you're in the town centre or by the waterfront.

There's lots of history to explore from the Church's architecture and the Tournai marble font to the stone coffin unearthed by the Victorians and the Millennium Hangings commemorating the town through the ages.

We've also got some workshops this summer...

  • Play a saxophone? Want to more experience playing in an ensemble? The why not come down to St Peter's by the Waterfront on Saturday 14th August between 10am and 1pm.

Adrian Hopgood will be giving a master class for players of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. It costs £5.00 per person which is payable on the day

  • Want to learn how to play a wind instrument? Then register to join the Ipswich Hospital Band's Beginners Group starting on Saturday 4th September at 11am and continuing on Mondays from 6.15pm. Experienced band members will teach you how to play an instrument and read music, as well as experience playing as a group.

To find out more and to register please go to www.ipswichhospitalband.org.uk/learntoplay

The weekend of the 11th and 12th September sees the annual Heritage Open Weekend where you'll be given an extra chance to see the Church. The weekend will also feature various musical groups and soloists, a textiles display and an exhibition about Ipswich-born pilot Edith Maud Cook reportedly the first woman to pilot a plane.

Don't forget...

And finally don't forget to book your tickets for the Festival of Remembrance on Thursday 11th November at 7.30pm. This is an evening of music from the Ipswich Hospital Band with a service of remembrance. Tickets for this concert will sell out quickly so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
